Neurotoxin Botulinum toxin, more commonly referred to by brand name ‘Botox’ although several brands exist, is a neurotoxic protein derived from the Clostridium botulinum bacteria. Small amounts of this protein cause chemical denervation by temporarily paralyzing contraction of targeted muscle groups, resulting in relaxation of fine lines and wrinkles in overlying skin.

Injection of neurotoxin is considered very safe and effective when done by properly trained clinicians (like your gals at Revisions!) Common complications include local bruising, swelling, redness and headache, while very rarely infection, numbness over injection site and vasovagal syncope (fainting) can occur. We always offer a two week follow-up consult to address any and all concerns and to ensure you are 100% happy with your results.
Generally local neurotoxin injection produces desired results for about a 12 week period, depending upon the individual and their anatomy and facial expressiveness. This also depends of the product used (see below). Neurotox in the armpits, done for excessive perspiration, lasts closer to 6 months.
“Po-tay-to, po-tah-to”
In all seriousness, all products are formulated from one of eight serotypes, or subtypes, of the C. botulinum bacteria- known as Botulinum toxin A.
Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Daxxify, Jeuveau and any other commercially available neurotoxin used for cosmetic or aesthetic purposes is all Botulinum toxin A.
At Revisions we choose to use a variety of these products based upon the patient's area(s) of concern and overall results goal. Schedule a consult with us today to discuss which product is right for you!
